The Beloved $4 Aldi Grocery I Wish I’d Tried Way Sooner (Now I Eat It Every Single Morning)

Aldi fans can’t help but share the story of the little grocery that could and post about their weekly finds in the Aisle of Shame. I’ve been shopping at Aldi for well over a decade and count myself among Aldi’s biggest fans. Every week I spend hours in the grocery store thanks to my jobs as a recipe developer, grocery writer, and primary cook for a pair of very discerning elementary schoolers.

I’m regularly roaming those aisles, and I bet I could navigate them blindfolded. While having a set list helps me shop efficiently, it can keep me from seeing new (or new-to-me) products that aren’t on my grocery list. That’s my excuse for why it took me so long to try one of my favorite Aldi products to date — Simply Nature Dark Chocolate-Covered Freeze Dried Strawberries.

Now that I’ve tried this fruity, chocolately, crunchy treat, I’m never going back.

What’s So Great About Simply Nature Dark Chocolate-Covered Freeze Dried Strawberries?

They say fruit is nature’s candy, so why not add a little dark chocolate? You can find strawberries all over the grocery store: fresh from the produce section, chewy and dried with the nuts and trail mixes, and completely chilled in the freezer section. One other spot to scout out strawberries at Aldi is near the cereals and granola. That’s where you’ll find bags of the award-winning Simply Nature Dark Chocolate-Covered Freeze Dried Strawberries.

I love that when you open the bag there are a variety of sizes of the chocolate-covered berries, just as the fruit found in nature would be. Some pieces are as big as a quarter while others are smaller bits, perfect for sprinkling over yogurt or oatmeal. The dark chocolate coating is rich and strikes a balance between bitter and sweet. The strawberries have an intense fruit flavor and a satisfying crunch. (There’s also a banana variety if that’s your fruit of choice.)

What’s the Best Way to Enjoy Simply Nature Dark Chocolate-Covered Freeze Dried Strawberries?

The first time I bought these chocolate-covered freeze dried strawberries, I polished off the bag way quicker than I expected. They’re that good! Now that they’ve become a regular on my grocery list, I’ve learned to pace myself so that I can enjoy them all week long.

I’ve recently rediscovered chia pudding as an easy make-ahead breakfast, and I’ve been making big batches of this chocolate almond chia pudding to eat every morning. I spoon the pudding into a serving dish, then top with a handful of coarsely chopped chocolate-covered freeze dried strawberries. If smoothie bowls are more your speed, blend frozen fruits until cool, thick, and creamy and top with the chocolatey fruit.

Like Jennifer Garner, I always keep a few bags of nuts in my purse. You know, for emergencies. I’ll add a handful of the dark chocolate-covered freeze dried strawberries to the nuts for easy snacking. You can also build a snack mix around the strawberries, and add pretzels, popcorn and nuts. The chocolatey coated berries are far superior to adding chocolate chips because the dark chocolate dip doesn’t melt as quickly.
