#BBCDown began trending this morning after iplayer, news and other online content became temporarily unavailable due to ‘technical issues’.

Instead of normal services users were met with an error message showing a creepy clown inexplicably surrounded by a blazing fire. The sight of the peculiar icon was enough to ignite twitter, setting it ablaze with amusing memes, quips and hysterical conspiracy theories.
