BBC The Traitors 'most pointless' twist as player chooses to use fake Welsh accent
With the third series of BBC's The Traitors kicking off this New Year's Day, fans have been champing at the bit for more backstabbing, scheming, plotting and...unneccessary fake accents? Well, that's one of the stand outs of the debut episode of series three where dungaree-wearing Charlotte decided to take on a Welsh accent for the foreseeable and viewers cannot believe it.
Not that there's anything wrong with adopting a Welsh accent, it's the best, of course, but the added pressure of maintaining and remembering to do an unnatural accent while constantly fending off accusations of being a traitor - it could happen - the Londoner is putting herself on the back foot immediately.
Fans of the show have said that "putting on a Welsh accent is the most extra and unnecessary thing ever," and that they see it as a "most pointless" plot twist.

Charlotte told Cardiff-based Welsh player, Elen that she was from Abergavenny and then in her piece to camera explained: "Actually it's a bit of a spanner in the works, I'm not Welsh I'm from London, born and bred. "
She went on to say that her mother is Welsh and that it's one of the "most trustworthy accents." What Charlotte is misremembering that in the previous two series of The Traitors, two of them have been Welsh, Amanda and Andrew.
One fan said on X: "Obsessed with Charlotte faking being Welsh in the most pointless plot twist the show has ever seen." Another added: "Charlotte faking a whole ass Welsh accent with there being a real Welsh person in the castle to just be a faithful." A third said: "Oh lord - how does Charlotte think she’s going to keep up a different accent 24/7?!"
There are two genuine Welsh players already in the 2025 Traitors castle, Elen and Leanne. Read more about them, here.
As with the previous series, episodes will air on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for roughly four weeks across the 12-episode run. For the latest TV & Showbiz news, sign up to our newsletter.
