BBC stars attacked by giant hornets live on air during Euro 2024 England coverage

Gary Lineker revealed that he and his fellow BBC pundits were “attacked by big hornets” during the Euro 2024 coverage of England’s match against Serbia on Sunday, 16 June.

As the squad took to the pitch, cheered on by WAGs including Annie Kilner and Kate Goodland, former professional footballer Gary was joined by Micah Richards, Rio Ferdinand and Cesc Fabregas as they hosted proceedings from the BBC’s studio in Germany.

However, while the Three Lions may have impressed fans with their work on the pitch, with the team beating Serbia with a 1-0 result, things were less smooth sailing in the studio and the presenters were approached by some unwanted insect guests.

As he introduced the second half of the game, 63 year old Gary revealed: “Second half, we’re looking forward to that. We’ve been attacked by big hornets flying around.”

The eventful moment came after the England WAGs reportedly sent their messages of support to the team to mark Father’s Day as well as the squad’s first Euro 2024 match of the tournament.

According to the Mirror, the group recorded some videos of their children sporting the England kit, with the sweet video being designed to give Gareth Southgate’s squad a boost for the tournament in Germany.

Meanwhile the clip reportedly saw the little ones adorably sing the national anthem, with many of the messages drawing on England’s famous 1966 victory. The publication also reports that a “content expert” was brought in to help piece the montage together.

“The players know that they will have dozens of wives, girlfriends, parents and siblings in the stands,” a source told the publication. “It is the first place they look to when they walk out of the tunnel. It is a crucial part of the support network for Gareth Southgate behind the scenes.”

As England prepared for their match against Serbia, their loved ones showed their support for the squad ahead of the game, with Anouska Santos, who is the partner of Luke Shaw, expressing her excitement as she headed to Manchester airport on Saturday, 15 June. “I'm really excited to be going,” she explained.

Jordan Pickford’s wife Megan also showed her support for her beau as she wore a necklace with her husband’s name as a token of support while at the match itself she sported an England shirt which featured Jordan’s famous number one on the front in tribute to the player.
