BBC Escape to the Country buyer chokes back tears over price of mystery house 'I feel like crying'

In the latest episode of Escape to the Country, a house hunter was moved to tears while searching for the perfect home. The popular BBC show, hosted by Sonali Shah, featured a married couple, Gail and Steve, their daughter Alex, and her one-year-old son.

They were looking for their dream country home, a task that kept Sonali busy trying to meet all their needs. The family, spanning three generations, initially wanted to move to Northumberland, but Sonali's final mystery house was located further afield in Cumbria.

Despite being outside their preferred location, the mystery house seemed to tick all the boxes for Gail and Steve, leaving them in awe as they toured the impressive property. However, they appeared disheartened at the end of the viewing, fearing it might exceed their £650,000 budget.

Sonali asked: "How do you feel now that I've given you exactly what you want?" reports the Newcastle Chronicle.

"I feel like crying! I actually did shed a tear up there, to be honest," Gail tearfully replied.

Steve added, "It is a bit emotional, to be honest, because it is too good to be true." He then said, "How could we afford something this beautiful? That's what I'm thinking!"

But Sonali had a surprise up her sleeve as she revealed that the luxurious home, which included 12 acres of land, was on the market for £550,000, which meant the property was £100,000 under their budget.

Gobsmacked, the pair could hardly speak as they shared their delighted at the news.

Talking about the size of the home, Steve said: "First impressions of the house was that I was amazed by the house and I was surprised that it was double!"

At the end of the show, Steve and Gail, along with their daughter Alex, revealed that they would be taking another look at the property as the mystery house seemed to be the house for them.

Escape to the Country airs weekdays at 3pm on BBC One.
