Bake Off’s Prue Leith posts throwback photo of herself to thank fans for their "positive messages"

From Good Housekeeping

Last week, Bake Off fans were left shocked when Prue Leith revealed she was 80 years old and now the GBBO judge has shared a seriously stunning throwback photo of herself thanking fans for their "positive messages".

The photo shows a 29-year-old Ruth in a long, slinky dress, standing at a bar and was taken back in 1969.

Posting the picture on her Instagram she said: “Thank you so much for all the great compliments about how I look on Bake Off!

“Truth is I’m having a very happy old age, am not averse to fake tan out of a bottle and all the glamour is added by Bambi and Debbie (the glam team), Sharon (wardrobe) and Jane and Claire the GBBO’s stylists!

“Isn’t it mad that at any age we ALWAYS think we look grim, should lose a stone etc. In 1969 (aged 29) I thought I’d die of shame if I hit ten stone.

"Now I look at that picture and wonder what I was on about: Today I live in dread of hitting thirteen stone. But I’m very grateful for all the positive messages. Thank you so much.”

Once again, fans were left speechless.

“Ooh Prue, I thought this was Dianna Rigg at first, good on you!” one wrote.

“Looking beautiful then and fabulous now, what’s your secret to ageing so well, any advice?” another said.

Prue has in fact revealed to Good Housekeeping the secret behind her youthful looks.

“I think it's 90 per cent luck isn't it?,” she said. “It's about energy. I think if you're happy it makes a huge difference, because you wake up in the morning and you want to get up, and life's good.

“Most people will look better on holiday than they do at work, and it's because they enjoy holidays more than they enjoy work. The people that look great at work are the ones who are really having a good time.”
