Bake Off fans stunned by Sandi Toksvig's revelation about history of caramel
When you think of sugary treats – and food in general, for that matter – the last thing you want to associate them with is a human hair...
So we can bet Bake Off viewers were pretty shocked (and just a tiny bit grossed out) when presenter Sandi Toksvig made a surprising revelation about the history of caramel during last night's episode.
As the GBBO contestants got to work whipping up a caramel sauce, Sandi stopped to tell Steven Carter-Bailey about the sticky sauce's first use.
And, safe to say, it might leave you feeling a little squeamish...
'When caramel was invented do you know what it was used for?' she asked him. 'Leg waxing.'
Yep, let that one sink in for a moment.
A clearly grossed out Steven spoke for all of us when he responded: 'Ouch!
'I guess they do still call it sugar waxing, don't they?'
Sandi then teasingly replied: 'I like that you know about waxing.'

Shocked by caramel's bizarre beauty history, Bake Off fans immediately took to twitter.
'I'd rather eat it, thanks,' wrote one, while another added: 'Hairy caramel ewwww'. Our sentiments exactly.
