'Backwards makeup' is the application hack Kendall Jenner's MUA uses for fresh but sculpted skin

OK, yes, Kendall Jenner and Hailey Bieber's faces are a pretty good head start when it comes to stunning makeup looks, but that doesn't make their makeup artist Mary Phillips' skills any less impressive. Thankfully, beauty content creator Tara Sigari has closely examined exactly how Mary creates sculpted looks that appear so natural and fresh-faced – and broke it down for us.

Sharing a video of her findings, Tara says; "If you’re anything like me, you probably also love @kendalljenner and @haileybieber makeup looks! Well my favourites have been done by @maryphillips ! I did some research and I wanted to know how she creates these natural glow yet sculpted base skin looks on her clients!"

Now, keep an open mind because according to Tara, Mary applies contour first. Yes, first. Before foundation, before concealer, before anything, Mary begins by sculpting the face with a contour stick.

Tara demonstrates the process, applying contour directly after her skincare. She then follows up with concealer, before finally applying a light layer of foundation with a big fluffy powder brush, blending it all together. And wow.

Calling it "so seamless, so sculpted and so glowy", Tara also noted that no lines were settling in creases as it's such a thin layer of makeup, and she didn't even feel the need to set her undereye concealer with her usual baking technique.

Contour can get a bad wrap as being tied to heavy or full glam looks (2016, we're looking at you), but with this application order twist even the most fearful will be converted.

In the space of one minute something that seemed so crazy, became so obvious. I honestly can't believe we weren't all already doing this.
