Looking for a cute baby knitting pattern? Look no further than this sweet baby set of a pinafore and bib – we've got the full pattern you need to stitch both.

It's such a lovely project for intermediate knitters, who have mastered the basic knitting stitches and would like to create a sweet project for a new arrival in family.

The bib and pinafore are perfectly matching, and decorated with beautiful embroidered flowers. You can leave off the embroidery if you prefer, and of course stitch the pieces in any shade of DK yarn you like.

22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm square over stocking stitch using 4mm needles.

Baby pinafore free knitting pattern

Skirt

Using 4mm needles, cast on 145 (163:169:181) sts.

Moss stitch row (RS): K1, [p1, k1] to end.

This row sets moss stitch, cont in moss stitch until work measures 3cm from cast on edge.

Cont in st st, beginning with a K row, until work measures 16 (18:24:26)cm from cast on edge, ending with a K row.

Next row (WS): P1, [P2tog, P1] to end. 97 (109:113:121) sts.

Change to 3.5mm needles.

Next row (RS): K1, [p1, k1] to end.

Next row (WS): P1, [k1, p1] to end.

These 2 rows set rib. Cont in rib until rib measures 4cm, ending after a WS row.

Shape armholes and front bib

Next row (RS): Cast off 5 sts in rib, P1, [K1, P1] 3 times, k24 (30:32:36), [P1, K1] 4 times, cast off 8 sts in rib, pm, cast off 8 sts, pm, cast off 24 (30:32:36) sts in rib, pm, cast off 8 sts, pm, cast off rem 4 sts. 40 (46:48:52) sts.

Front bib

Change to 4mm needles.

Next row (WS): [K1, P1] 4 times, p24 (30:32:36), [P1, K1] 4 times.

Next row (RS): [K1, P1] 4 times, p24 (30:32:36), [P1, K1] 4 times.

These 2 rows set patt for front bib.

Cont in patt until front bib measures 6 (8:9:10)cm, ending with a WS row.

Next row (RS): [K1, P1] to end.

This row sets moss stitch (throughout), cont in moss stitch until front bib measures 9 (11:12:13)cm, ending with a WS row.

Next row: Patt 8, slip last 8 sts onto a holder, cast off 24 (30:32:36)sts, patt 7. 8 sts.

First strap

Cont in moss stitch until strap measures 19 (22:24:25)cm, ending with a WS row.

Cast off.

Second strap

With WS facing, slip rem 8 sts back onto left hand needle, cont in moss stitch until strap measures 19 (22:24:25)cm, ending with a WS row.

Cast off.

Making up

Join side seam. Attach cast off edges of straps between markers on back of dress. Weave in ends and block to given measurements.

Baby bib free knitting pattern

Using 4mm needles, cast on 47 sts.

Row 1 (RS): K1, [P1, K1] to end.

This row sets moss stitch.

Cont in moss stitch until work measures 2cm from cast on edge.

Next row (RS): [K1, P1] 3 times, k35, [p1, k1] 3 times.

Next row (WS): [K1, P1] 3 times, p35, [p1, k1] 3 times.

These 2 rows set st st with moss stitch border.

Cont in patt until work measures 15cm, ending after a WS row.

Next row (RS): K1, [P1, K1] to end.

This row sets moss stitch.

Cont in moss stitch (throughout) until work measures 17cm from cast on edge.

First tie

Next row (RS): Patt 6, slip last 6 sts onto a holder, cast off 35 sts, patt 5. 6 sts.

Cont in moss stitch until tie measures 25cm, fasten off.

Second tie

With RS facing, slip rem 6 sts back into work, cont in moss stitch until tie measures 25cm, fasten off.

Finishing

Weave in ends.
