Guac may be extra at some restaurants, but Shake Shack is about to offer avocado for free at a few lucky locations.

To highlight their recently reintroduced sliced avocado topping, Shake Shack is bringing avocado experts into select Shake Shacks on April 25 and 26. Restaurants in New York, California, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Florida will host visiting avocado sommeliers to help guests pick from a selection of avocados, choose their preferred fruit, and see it sliced in front of them before it's added to a sandwich.

Better yet, Shake Shacks hosting the avocado experts will offer the avocado add-on for free with any sandwich or burger order at the restaurant or via the Shack app, through April 28.

The promotion aims to showcase the top-notch ingredients Shake Shack offers, as opposed to, say, a squeezable avocado paste you may find at other fast-food joints.

“We love to remind our guests of our fine dining roots and we’re always looking for opportunities to spotlight our high-quality ingredients,” says Jay Livingston, chief marketing officer at Shake Shack. “Hospitality is at the core of everything we do — that’s why we strive to create experiences for our guests and infuse joy into every Shack experience. This is an experience that is uniquely Shake Shack and something that shows our dedication to bringing elevated experiences to our guests. You won’t see any pre-packaged spreads from us, ever.”

Beyond helping guests select their preferred avocado (honestly, a challenge, anyone who has shopped for avocados can relate to), Shake Shack’s avocado experts (distinct from the Chief Avocado Officer) will explain the benefits of eating avocados and how to best pair avocado with menu items. “They’re like sommeliers, but for avocados, and are ready to offer our guests a unique tableside experience while providing tips and fun facts about our avocados along the way,” Livingston says.

Already included on Shake Shack’s Avocado Bacon Burger, avocado can be added to any burger, chicken sandwich, BLT, or grilled cheese, along with complimentary toppings including tomato, lettuce, pickles, and sliced onions. Typically, sliced avocado costs $1.99 as an addition, and an avocado sommelier may help justify that cost after the free promotion ends. “Avocados bring a freshness and creamy texture that pair well with our burgers just as well as our chicken sandwiches,” Livingston says.

Those who want an avocado-powered adventure can also enter online to win a free trip to New York City for a visit to Shake Shack’s Innovation Kitchen. At the downtown Manhattan menu development restaurant, the winner will enjoy an exclusive avocado menu courtesy of Avocados From Mexico and Shake Shack.

Even if you don’t win the sweepstakes, you can still save a few bucks by taking advantage of Shake Shack’s latest promotion, a free chicken sandwich on Sunday, April 28.
