Avicii’s ex-girlfriend dies aged 34 - six years after superstar DJ’s tragic death

World-famous DJ Avicii’s ex-girlfriend, Emily Goldbert, has died at the age of just 34 - six years after the death of the Wake Me Up hitmaker.

Emily died from a pulmonary embolism on April 3 in La Jolla, California, having just last year had celebrated being "cancer free" in a moving post on social media. Her family described the 34 year old as a "vivacious and unique person who experienced many adventures in her all too brief life".

Last year, Emily had shared the poignant post alongside a snap of herself giving the thumbs-up in hospital on Instagram. She captioned it: " "I lived b****. I have had cancer for the past year. I am now cancer free."

Emily is survived by her parents, Julie and Sam Goldberg of La Jolla, and brother Aaron Goldberg of Chicago, Illinois.

Her death comes six years after her ex, Swedish music legend Avicii, died aged 28, on April 20, 2018. Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, had a host of Grammy-nominated hits to his name.

Following his untimely death, Emily posted a devastating tribute on Instagram, which read:

"Come on babe, don’t give up on us. Choose me, and I’ll show you love. Those are lyrics from a song Tim wrote for me. I wish I could have lived up to them.”

She added: "For the two years we were together, he was my closest confidante, and my best friend. Now I can’t look at Bear without knowing I’ll never see his face again.

Emily had posted her own poignant post after her ex-boyfriend's shock passing

"I’m still collecting my thoughts and thank you for all your kind words and texts. Wake me up when it’s all over, because I don’t want it to be real. RIP Avicii."

Avicii cited health reasons for retiring from live performance in 2016. The 28-year-old's passing in 2018 was confirmed at the time in a statement by his publicist, and was soon followed by tributes from his famous friends, including fellow DJs like Calvin Harris, and Pete Tong, artists like Liam Payne, Dua Lipa and Charlie Puth.
