ASOS shoppers were left gobsmacked after spotting a pair of 'market slippers' being sold on the site for a hefty £42.

The black sandals, featuring a solid flat bottom and a sheer top adorned with beads, have caused quite the stir online. Many claim they've snagged similar shoes for far less at Primark or their local market stalls.

The uproar began when a user named Taylor took to X (formerly Twitter) to share her disbelief. She wrote: "I can believe ASOS are selling these slippers for FOURTY TWO GREAT BRITISH POUNDS!"

Her post quickly went viral, amassing more than 232,000 views. One person blasted: "These used to be sold in Primark and every Market back in the day. ASOS is wild."

Another commented: "East street Market would be three for £15." And another person remarked: "We'll just go down to the market let's be for real hahaha."

Meanwhile, another X user joked: "Is this a sick joke? I used to get these for a fiver." There's hope yet for those looking for a bargain though– as one shopper noted: "I'm counting on Primark to hook me up with a cheaper pair."

Some shoppers have cheekily suggested that ASOS is "gentrifying" the classic sandals, while others were in disbelief that the style of shoes have made a comeback.

Last year, ASOS launched a pop-up clothes site where most items were being flogged for a fiver.

Shoppers could peruse a selection of around 2,000 womenswear and menswear products from ASOS-owned brands like ASOS Design and ASOS Edition – much to their delight.

And in other shopping news, fashion fans are going wild for a pair of belted shorts from M&S that are the "perfect length".
