Attention those of you who remain convinced that Taylor Swift is secretly Elly Conway, author of Argylle: she is not. At least according to director Matthew Vaughn, who responded to speculation that Taylor was behind the book on which his movie was based.

"I’m not a big internet guy, and it was actually my daughter who came up to me — this is the power of celebrity and the internet — and said, 'You never told me Taylor wrote the book!'" Matthew told Rolling Stone. "And I’m looking at her going, 'What are you talking about Taylor Swift wrote the book? She didn’t write the book!' I was laughing because I was like, 'It’s not true! She didn’t write the book'’ But my daughter was convinced of it."

He went on to say "There is a real book … and it’s a really good book. And there is an Elly Conway who wrote the book, but it’s not Taylor Swift. And I say that because I imagine Taylor Swift has a load of people trying to jump on her bandwagon left, right and center, and I don’t want to be a part of that club. I did read the conspiracies and I was like, wow, they don’t leave a stone unturned! But it’s not Taylor Swift. She definitely didn’t write the book."

To catch everyone up real quick, fans have been long convinced that Taylor Swift was secretly Elly Conway for several reasons: 1) she has a history of using pseudonyms, 2) no one can figure out who Elly Conway actually is, 3) the main character—also named Elly Conway—carries around a Scottish Fold cat in a backpack just like Tay, 4) the movie's social accounts were posting Taylor lyrics.

And honestly? Even if Taylor didn't write the book...the author is still a complete mystery. As Vanity Fair put it in an article published on January 16, "the true identity of its author remains a frustrating mystery—and/or compelling marketing ploy."
