Is The World Ready For The ‘Vagina’ Dress?

You probably know what a slit dress is: A dress with one slit down the side, that reveals a little - but not a lot - of thigh.

A bit like this one that Renee Zellweger rocked at the ‘Bridget Jones’ Baby’ premiere:

But if one thigh simply isn’t enough, then you may be in luck.

Introducing the new wave of racy red carpet attire, dubbed by the Internet as the ‘vagina dress’. Sometimes it features one slit, and sometimes features two. But what it definitely also boasts is a cut so high it barely covers the wearer’s, erm, lady parts.

You can see why it’s been given the name it has.

The trend was kicked off by none other than Kendall Jenner back in June 2014, because if anyone can pull it off, she can. After all, why rock one slit if you can rock two?

And celebrities have since shown off their own takes on the trend, from the super-risqué to the much more toned down.

Italian models Giulia Salemi and Dayane Mello caused a stir at Venice Film Festival earlier this week when they took to the red carpet in two very revealing dresses - and going sans underwear.

The pair turned heads in their skimpy attire at the premiere for the TV miniseries The Young Pope at the Italian film fest, where guests usually adhere to a black-tie dress code.

Salemi left little to the imagination in a plunging orange dress with two high slits that barely covered her nether regions and showed off her bikini tan lines. Mello wore a similar fuschia gown with puffy sleeves, a slit up to her hipbone and a long train.

Bella Hadid also donned a slinky version of the piece last month at Cannes Film Festival, and pulled it off like a pro (we wouldn’t expect anything less).

Singer Mollie King (of The Saturdays fame) rocked the look last year at the British Fashion Awards in December 2015.

It seems the vagina dress is here to stay and, though it can be so right, we can predict it going horribly wrong, too.
