Trying to draw on the perfect eyeliner wing can be traumatic AF. One second you're neatening up that flick, the next, your entire eye looks like it's been attacked with a sharpie. Oh, and let's not forget about the wonderfully-timed sneeze...After taking a good 10 mins to draw on those liner wings, you step back to admire your handiwork, and right then and there the hayfever gods decide to screw you over. One sneeze sends those super-sharp wings into a smudgy mess. Life's not fair.

So let's all take a moment to appreciate makeup artist, Gina Frey. Gina somehow managed to bend the laws of physics, and create this absolute masterpiece...

We first spotted her cool AF creation over on Haunt, and have since become obsessed with her artistic, dreamy eye looks. So, we hit her up to find out just how she manages to craft such cool script-like liner. Her secret? Temporary tattoos. Yup, it turns out transfer tatts can be used to cheat the most insanely intricate eye looks.

"My talented model friend Alysha Nett actually released a series of these beautiful temporary tattoos in collaboration with her tattoo artist, Tim Hendricks on Tattoo You. It dawned on my pretty quickly to stick them on my face and synergize her temporary tattoo collection with my makeup art! The “whatever forever,” dagger, rose, and “heartless” tattoos are all from Alysha and Tim’s collection. The bats I snagged from Wal-Mart, the birds off Etsy." Explained Gina.

So where do you start? Thankfully, Gina gave us a breakdown...

Step One:

"Start with a clean, matte base. Whether applying to your eyelids or face, it’s important to use something that mimics the matte nature of dry skin so the tattoo has something to grip on to. For eyes, I love to use liquid lipstick as a base! For skin, a matte liquid or cream foundation that really dries down, like Kat Von D Beauty Lock-it Foundation is best. Be sure not to set with any type of powder, translucent powder will stick to the tattoo and cause it to lift off of the skin."

Step Two:

"Cut as tightly around the temporary tattoo as possible with scissors prior to application. This way, you can see exactly where your tattoo will apply and place accordingly. Remove the clear film and press into the skin."

Pro tip: Keep your face relaxed when placing and applying, as if you were holding a casual conversation - you don’t want the tattoo to buckle or pucker.

Step Three:

'Use a damp cotton bud soaked in water. This way, the application is controlled and you don’t disrupt the rest of the makeup with water. With circular motions, I work the tattoo into the skin from one side to the other."

Step Four:

"After the paper backing is well saturated, you should feel the paper start to slip away from the film. Grab one edge and peel slowly so that the film doesn’t pucker and distort the shape of the tattoo. (If your tattoo does fold or pucker, you can use the edge of the wet cotton bud to softly manipulate the tattoo into place before it dries.)"

If you're thinking about giving the whole tattoo liner thing a go, after all festival season is almost upon us, be sure to take on Gina's final tips...

"For the “whatever, forever” eye, I actually buffed liquid lipstick all over the eye because it dries down super matte, and even retains a little tackiness that grabs onto the temporary tattoo film" says Gina. "Also, go slow and keep your face fully relaxed. I can’t tell you how many times I made my life harder by not generously applying water and removing the backing slowly, or raising my eyebrows in an unnatural way. It can disrupt the shape of the tattoo and then you have a lot of unnecessary corrective legwork."

Now, go forth and let the world think you're some kind of magical eyeliner Picasso...✨
