Anya Taylor-Joy's bizarre pink leather dress could not be more perfect for spring 2023

Anya Taylor-Joy attended Michelle Yeoh's Oscar celebrations and her dress was giving us all the dopamine.

The event, which was hosted by Yeoh's manager David Unger and the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, took place in London on March 26 and Taylor-Joy’s dress was proof of one thing. Barbiecore is alive and well, even in 2023.

The Anglo-Argentine actress is making a case for Barbiecore in 2023

Michelle Yeoh was holding court at 'The Aubrey', a restaurant which is at the top of London A-Listers foodie agenda right now, and her high-profile guest showed us the powerful art of Barbie dressing for spring. The fashion maverick donned a fluorescent pink leather outfit; a corset style top and skirt, complete with matching boots and elbow-length opera gloves (also in leather) at the star studded soiree.

TBH we were not expecting hot pink to still be trending well into this year. Following on from the Barbiecore trend of 2022, a softer, candyfloss shade of pink has been taking over for SS23. Seen on the runways of Paris, Milan, and New York’s AW23 shows, a noticeable hue of this pastel colour broke up the classic monochrome outfits. The likes of Valentino, Victoria Beckham, and Isabel Marant showcased these soft shades of pale pink in their new collections, keeping it simple with a statement piece of outerwear or floor length dress.

Back in 2022, influencers and fashion editors and everyone in between were taking cues from Margot Robbie’s titular character and Valentino’s PPP show by donning bright pink. The term 'Barbiecore' has now become a commonly used phrase, at least among fashion circles.

That being said, it’s not not long until Margot Robbie’s hotly anticipated live-action Barbie film is released, and clearly the star of The Menu is not letting the trend die anytime soon. She’s not the only one who is still championing the doll-approved shade, global colour experts Pantone announced that 'Viva Magenta' is the colour of the year for 2023.

"It is a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength," Pantone explained of the shade following the announcement, "Viva Magenta is brave and fearless, and a pulsating colour whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative."

Sounds perfect for spring wouldn't you say?
