Anne Hathaway's viral Gap dress is now on sale
It's not every day that an A-lister wears an affordable high street dress to a high fashion event, but Anne Hathaway doing just that is just one reason why we love her.
The Oscar-winning actor has been killing the red-carpet style game this year, stealing the spotlight in everything form a cobalt blue gown with subtle cut-out detailing to a shimmering sequin jumpsuit.
So when she chose a shirt dress, and not just any shirt dress but a Gap shirt dress, for a Bulgari jewellery event in May, the fashion world sat up – first in bafflement, and then in awe. Because, of course, Anne looked amazing.
She managed to make a basic capsule wardrobe building block feel evening-appropriate, layering it over a matching semi-sheer corset top and pleated shorts (both also Gap).
To elevate the look, she let her Bulgari jewellery did the talking (and that certainly doesn't come with a Gap price tag). She finished things off with simple white court shoes and a silver croc leather bag.
Gap is the talk of the style town right now because celebrity-approved designer Zac Posen took over as creative director back in February. Excitingly, although Anne's dress was a custom creation by the main man himself (as was Da'Vine Joy Randolph's Gap denim dress at the Met Gala), it's just been made available to buy online in the UK. Even more excitingly, it's only £120!
In a statement, Posen said: "Designing this custom white shirt dress was an exciting opportunity to reimagine Gap's classic white shirt. By incorporating elements like the shirt's collar and placket, and adding feminine touches with darting at the waist, we created a modern look that pays homage to the elegance of Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. It's a connection of timeless style with contemporary fashion."
Of course, given all the hype around this dress, it's already started to sell out. So if you're keen, go go go!
