Anne Hathaway Is 'Waking' Her Lips With A Hairpin So We're 'Waking' Our Lips With A Hairpin

Does Anne Hathaway's Lip Hack Actually Work?Cindy Ord

Anne Hathaway is entering her beauty influencer era.

While on set for a beauty shoot with Shiseido, Hathaway took to TikTok to share an easy lip hack that apparently helps to 'wake your upper lip up.'

While hairstylist Adir Abergel worked on her hair, Hathaway held up a hairpin explaining: 'I thought my upper lip looked a little...wilted,' which we can only assume means she'd prefer to give her a pout a little something extra. Using Abergel's hair pin, Hathaway says she 'went in, and I sort of stimulated my lip to try and get some blood flow back there, to get some circulation.' Essentially, she taps the curved end of the pin gently across her lip, taking care not to 'do more than 30 seconds' and 'don't stab yourself'.

It's not a completely wild idea. Stimulating blood flow can help to bring some rosiness into the lip and cheek (it's why you often see the pinching of cheeks on TV in order to restore colour). That said, it won't affect the actual size of your lips. After testing it for ourselves, we'd also caveat that the technique is less likely to work if your lips have deeper pigment.

While we're on team let-your-lips-live-their-best-life, if you are looking for some temporary plumping effect, try Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Big Lip Plumpgasm (it is very minty, so do bear that in mind), or Hourglass Phantom Volumising Glossy Balm, which imparts the prettiest, light-reflecting sheen.
