Anne Hathaway takes sartorial tip from 'favourite actresses' for stellar Cannes debut
Anne Hathaway has piqued the interest of fashion insiders in a series of colourful looks of late, but the actor was a vision in white as she attended her first Cannes Film Festival red carpet on Thursday evening.
Hathaway, 39, who was at the annual week-long event in the French Riviera for the premiere of her new period drama, Armageddon Time, stunned in a custom Armani Privé gown for her Cannes Film Festival debut.
The actor looked gorgeous in her white strapless sequin gown, which featured a long train and a slim cut-out detail under the bust. Hathaway revealed recently that she was inspired by Cannes Film Festival icons through the years for the her gala debut red carpet look.
“You know, I've never been to Cannes, and I've been watching the fashion of the film festival unfold for a couple decades now,” Hathaway told People of how she put together the perfect Cannes wardrobe. “And I've noticed certain things you can never go wrong with.”
“You never go wrong with a little sparkle,” she continued. “You never go wrong with something that looks chic and glamorous, but feels very, very comfortable.”
“I noticed that a lot of my favourite actresses had their first-hand experience wearing all white,” she added. “So that was what I did.”
Her recognisable dark brown hair was sleek and natural, with her long bangs sweeping her face, and make-up was left natural too to allow one accessory in particular to be the centre of attention.
The accessory in question? A 107,15 carat sapphire and diamond necklace by Bulgari, for which Hathaway is the latest brand ambassador.
The Mediterranean Reverie necklace, from the new Bulgari Eden The Garden of Wonders High Jewellery features the unique 107,15 carat royal blue cushion-cut sapphire from Sri Lanka and certainly lit up the Cannes red carpet.
