Amy Dowden admits 'I want to be a mum' as she makes heartbreaking fertility admission
Amy Dowden has opened up about her fertility journey and her longing to be a mum following her cancer journey.. The Strictly pro made the admission on Monday's Loose Women, where she sat alongside professional dancer Carlos Gu.
In 2023, Amy was living her dream of being a professional dancer on Strictly Come Dancing. She had recently married the love of her life and hoped to start a family one day.
However, Amy was dealt a crushing when doctors told her that the chemotherapy treatment would affect her chances of having children.
Before her chemo started, Amy had a small window to have fertility treatment and would have to undergo another operation to freeze her eggs. A procedure the dancer decided to go ahead with.
However, after waiting for the results, the dancer was told that five of her eggs had frozen successfully.

When asked about her IVF journey on Loose Women, Amy explained: "At the moment, it would be too soon.
"I have got...I had a hormone-fed cancer, so I have been put into early menopause, and it would be too dangerous now to consider it."
"I really want to be a mum. I have always wanted to be a mum," she said before adding: "We do have five embryos, so I hope one day, if it is safe to do so, I get the privilege and honour of being someone's mummy."
Elsewhere in the interview, Carlos got choked up when chatting about his best friend and what she has been through over the past few years.
As the discussion turned to their tour, Ruth Langsford asked Amy what fans could expect, to which the dancer replied: "Every emotion going."
Carlos weighed in: "Before we talk about the tour, I just want to say this. Amy has so much passion for dancing, especially her first year when she was diagnosed with cancer.
"She came to Strictly once in a while, and everybody would say, 'Why is she not resting at home? It is so risky', but I know there was, erm..."
Carlos paused as he fought back tears before adding: "I know that was the only thing that could support her and make her through because by being in the ballroom, she could survive."
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
