It’s hard to imagine what it’d be like to be told you have three weeks to live, or how you would react.

Mama Cax, based in NYC, experienced just this. When she was 14, she was diagnosed with bone and lung cancer, and given three weeks to live - but thanks to an experimental drug, she beat the odds and lived.

Many of us would have been permanently shaken by the experience, but not Cax. Despite what happened, and the resulting disability, she’s become a fashion-blogging legend.

Although she recovered, the illness did have a permanent physical impact, as she had to have her leg amputated in the process. So she now walks with a prosthetic leg and two forearm crutches.

Sometimes this prosthetic features in shots, sometimes it doesn’t. Regardless, her Instagram account gives us serious #fashiongoals.

Mama Cax wants to use her experiences to make a difference, too.

She told Bored Panda: “I recognise how lucky I am and that many can’t afford medical treatments and people with disabilities as a whole face unparalleled discrimination.

“In many parts of the world, they are politically and socially excluded. I feel like I’m in a position to make a difference and one day be an advocate for people with disabilities.”
