We’re among the first to sail on the new Disney Treasure. Here’s what to expect.
Like Aladdin invites Jasmine to a whole new world, guests are invited to experience their favorite Disney films and theme park attractions in a new way aboard Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Treasure.
Whether they’re stepping into the palatial Grand Hall inspired by “Aladdin” or sitting back at the Skipper Society lounge, with skippers from the Jungle Cruise ride, guests will feel like they’re part of the story.
USA TODAY was invited to be among the first to sail on the Disney Treasure ahead of its maiden voyage. Here’s what travelers should know.
What is special about the Disney Treasure?
The Disney Treasure isn’t just a ship for Disney lovers, it’s also for those of us who love Disney parks, with numerous spaces on board designed in tribute to the parks. Beyond Skipper Society, the ship is home to the Periscope Pub, inspired by 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which was both a Disney film and ride, sunsetted at Walt Disney World but remaining at Tokyo DisneySea.
It also houses the Haunted Mansion Parlor, Disney’s first lounge designed in homage to the popular attraction. An attraction unto itself, the parlor is jam-packed with Easter eggs from its namesake ride, as well as a new storyline centered on a ship captain and his spooky bride. Guests can easily spend an hour inside, marveling at how the portraits' eyes move and their subjects’ appearances decay over time, then come back to discover something new, by sitting elsewhere in the room.
Other ship experiences are inspired by films, such as the live musical dinner show Plaza de Coco, Disney’s first stage adaptation of "Moana" and Scat Cat Lounge, which pays tribute to “The Aristocats.”
