I tried to resist, but a certain oversized sweatshirt had been following me online for weeks (ah, the joys of modern digital marketing). Along with many other tempting colors, it was available in my favorite bright shade of green, and I loved the details—preppy stripes, a vintage-inspired faux V-stitch, and a fun contrast trim.
Women Striped Oversized Sweatshirt
Best of all, it was only $30 (currently marked down 10% to $27) and near identical to another sweatshirt that was showing up in all my targeted ads online and in my social media feeds—but that one was more expensive, with a price tag of $98!
One of the main differences between the two that I spotted is fabric content: The cheaper one is 73% rayon and 27% polyester, while the more expensive one is 80% cotton and 20% polyester.
The other major distinguishing factor: brand name. The $30 option is Anrabess, an affordable brand that’s been featured in our expert shopping editors’ guides to Amazon fashion—most recently top-rated sweaters and comfiest loungewear sets.
The $98 option is Free People, which we often see popping up on the social media accounts of influencers and even celebrities. In fact, we just recently spotted HGTV star Erin Napier wearing this timeless chunky sweater from the brand.
Both have a wide selection of colorways, a few of which are near identical across both brands, like the black and white striped with blue contrast trim shown here. Others are different—the green and navy striped one that caught my eye is only available from Anrabess.
Free People Women's Classic Striped Crew, Black Combo
Being a person on a budget who really needed a new cute comfy sweatshirt (my UGA Dawgs one is sadly on its last legs), I took the plunge on the $30 one. Six weeks later, I can honestly say I love this sweatshirt. It washes well, and the fabric is a good weight, soft, and warm but breathable, so I expect it to be a good transitional piece as we head into spring. And what can I say? The color and fun design details just make me happy.
If you, like me, find yourself haunted online by a certain cute striped sweatshirt, well, you have my verdict.
