Alison Hammond has been confirmed as the new host of The Great British Bake Off.

The This Morning presenter took to Instagram today (17 March) to confirm the news with a cute video featuring a fondant icing version of herself, fellow presenter Noel Fielding and judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith.

"It’s OFFICIAL!!! It’s happening The Great British Bake off ! Let’s have it ! The cake that is," posted the star, alongside the fun video where she interviewed her fondant self about the new role.

Fellow celebrities were quick to congratulate Alison with Strictly presenter Claudia Winkleman writing, "BRILLIANT ❤️❤️❤️" and Louise Rednapp saying "congratulations beaut x"

Prue Leith shared the post to her Instagram stories saying, "Huge congratulations Alison, you will be magnificent." Fellow judge Paul Hollywood also shared the post on Instagram saying, "welcome!!!!! looking forward to seeing you in the tent, you’re going to love it X"

The Great British Bake Off team also confirmed Alison's appointment on Twitter with the pun, "Baking News"

"We're delighted to announce that Alison Hammond will be joining forces with Noel Fielding to host the next series of The Great British Bake Off on Channel 4 later this year. We cannot wait," read the tweet.

This won't be the first time Alison's entered the Bake Off tent having previously taken part in the celebrity edition for Stand Up To Cancer, where she fared well, particularly impressing the judges with her brownie recipe.

Alison Hammond replaces Matt Lucas who stepped down from the role last year.

However, you can still watch Matt co-host the upcoming Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up to Cancer, with celebrities including Friends' David Schwimmer and The Repair Shop's Jay Blades taking part.
