Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary chatted to Sir Lenny Henry from the This Morning sofas about his upcoming TV drama, Three Little Birds.

Sir Lenny was also joined by rising stars, Rochelle Neil and Yazmin Belo, who each have lead roles in the show.

Set in 1957, post-Windrush, Three Little Birds follows two sisters and their friend as they board a ship from Jamaica bound for a new life in Britain.

Praising the six-part drama written by Sir Lenny (which is partly inspired by his mother's life), Alison opened up about how it resonated with her own mum's story.

"My mum came to Britain in 1957, 10 years after wind rush," Sir Lenny reflected, while giving a glimpse into the upcoming series. "Suddenly she was introduced to this incredible world - and some of it was hostile [...] she got racial abuse, she got oppression, there was sexism, but she overcame it all."

Sir Lenny continued to explain that he wanted to "write a story about migrants coming to this country and figuring out how to integrate and become part of the British world.

"I'm feeling the familiarities - my mum came here. She only came because her grandmother told her mother that she needed to come," Alison later said. "Her mother didn't want her to come because she'd started a new family. So, it really is familiar."

After interviewing Sir Lenny, Rochelle and Yazmin, Alison shared a photo on Instagram. She captioned it: "What a wonderful show today, thanks to all our guests! @thismorning so lovely seeing Sir Lenny Henry, Yazmin and Rochelle stars of Three little birds on @itv @itvxofficial resonates so much with my mum's story in so many ways 💓"

Three Little Birds will air on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm on 22 October.
