Alexander Wang accuses Philipp Plein of copying past show
It's not uncommon for designers to be inspired by one another; new collections often reference those that have gone before as trends thought long forgotten suddenly re-emerge. However, every once in a while, there's such a striking similarity between certain pieces, concepts or shows that you have to wonder whether they've taken that 'influence' one step too far - or whether it was pure coincidence.
Alexander Wang has accused Philipp Plein of being very heavily inspired by one of his former shows, pointing out similarities between his 2013 collaboration with H&M, and Plein's Sport collection show in Milan in January.
The designer shared a video meme on his Instagram account which plays the two shows side-by-side, alongside:
"Can I copy your homework?'
"Yeah just change it up a bit so it doesn't look obvious you copied"
"OK"
The video depicts undeniable similarities between the two shows, from race-track inspired staging, to the free-runner intro and even the models wearing similar harnesses, headwear and sporting accessories.
