The 5 things Alexa Ray Joel has depended on during these quarantine-y times

Alexa Ray Joel is the answer to the question: What do you get when you cross the Uptown Girl and the Piano Man? The spawn of supermodel Christie Brinkley and Billy Joel has made a name for herself both in the beauty (she was once a spokeswoman of Prell shampoo) and music worlds. She began composing her own songs at the ripe old age of 15 and is a recording artist with a slew of tunes under her belt.
"I'm really blessed to have the parents that I have, because they're both artists at their core," Joel says. "My mom starred in Chicago on Broadway, she painted my father's River of Dreams album cover. And my father, of course, is legendary and all that."
Well, she's not doing so bad herself. But even she endured her share of challenges in quarantine. Here are the things that have kept her healthy, confident and inspired.
The Art of Seduction by Robert Greene
Joel sends Robert Greene's inspirational tome out to "all my fellow bookworms out there." The "seduction" he's teaching extends well beyond the romantic concept of the word, and he seems to practice what he preaches: The Art of Seduction is a multi-million seller.
"For me, as a performer, I'm always trying to learn how to seduce my audience and how to really make a big impact with my art," says Joel, who adds a concise critique: "He's a little edgy with his writing...and kind of a little sexy too, which is fun."

Biosil Collagen Generator
Collagen, keratin, elastin. These are the three proteins your body produces to keep hair, skin and nails strong and supple. But as we age, the body produces less of them. Enter Biosil, which helps to get the levels of those proteins back up where you want them.
"I swear by it. It reduces fine lines and wrinkles," says Joel, who adds a combination admission and testimonial: "My mom actually represents this product, and she looks pretty damn good, so she knows what she's doing."

Nars Inappropriate Red Lipstick
Everybody needs a go-to red lipstick. For Joel, who spends a fair share of her life in front of cameras and under merciless stage lighting, she needs one that makes a statement and holds up under pressure.
"This is my favorite, Inappropriate Red, "she gushes. "You can see how lush, how beautiful this color is. It's a classic scarlet, traffic-stopping red. You can't get any better than this."

Caudalie Grape Water Face Mist
Funny how socially-isolated life can be both mind-numbingly static and strangely stressful, even for your face. "During quarantine, and just for life in general, I must have this Caudalie grape water," says Joel of her favorite waker-upper, Caudalie Face Mist. "It just refreshes your skin. "The trend now is everybody can't be hydrated and glowy enough, and without adding any more cakey product, this just gives you that natural luminous glow that everyone's always looking for."

"Seven Years"
Aptly enough, Joel decided to send us all out with a song, which happens to be her new single. Also aptly enough, it's both a romantic ode and reflective of, as her dad would say, a New York state of mind.
"The song is really a musical love letter," she explains. "I really tell the story of seven years in my relationship with my fiancee, [restauranteur] Ryan [Gleason]. It also sets the tone of New York City, which is where we first met. Romantics and New York City lovers can relate to it."
