Taking on the likes of Tanqueray, Chase Distillery and Gin Malfy, Aldi has launched a new citrussy, fruity gin that has our mouths literally watering.

Perfect for summer tipples, the retailer has released a Seville Orange and Persian Lime Gin, which retails for an absolute steal at just £14.99.

Rivalling products like Tanqueray's best-selling Flor de Sevilla (which costs around £25), the new gin hit Aldi stores and online this week, and with Brit's love for gin showing no signs of slowing down we predict it will be a huge success.

Similar to its fruity counterparts the gin comes in at a strong 40 percent abv, and offers a Mediterranean twist on the classic G&T, with distinctive juniper notes enhanced by subtle flavours of tangy, yet sweet, oranges.

The gin was released in response to the growing demand for flavoured gin in the UK, with the Wine and Spirits Trade Association reporting flavoured gin driving half of all total gin sales in the UK.

A big fan of these flavoured spirits ourselves, we can't wait to sip this crisp new gin in an ice-cold G&T, but would also love to try it in a orange Negroni or bitter-sweet citrus Martini.

We reckon it would taste good poured neat over ice, too.

In the past 12 months, the flavoured gin market has boomed like never before, from sweeter pink gins with flavours of raspberries and strawberries, to rich gingerbread, salted caramel and spiced plum gin liqueurs.

Speaking about the launch, managing director of buying at Aldi, Julie Ashford said: 'As the weather gets warmer, we’re thrilled to offer Aldi shoppers a taste of the Mediterranean with our new Spanish-inspired Orange & Persian Lime Gin.

'This innovative new addition to our gin range reflects our commitment to ensuring our customers enjoy the best quality products, without breaking the bank.'

If you can't decide between wine or gin for your summer tipple, why not have both, as another beverage recently released is a wine-gin hybrid, made with Pinot Noir grapes.

Created by English winery Chapel Down, the new gin is infused with the characteristics of the famous red grape, with delicate flavours of red berries.

We've got a feeling it's going to be a great summer!
