Alan Carr's ex-husband Paul Drayton has revealed the heartbreaking reason why they will be reuniting tomorrow. Paul, 51, took to Instagram to share that their beloved dog Joyce is unwell and they have made the difficult decision to put her to sleep.

The former theatre actor shared a series of nostalgic photos of himself, Alan, and Joyce, writing: £Her heart is failing. Ours are breaking! 4.30 tomorrow me and Alan are doing our last act of kindness and letting her go. Thank you for all your lovely messages." He also shared a favourite photo of Joyce sitting on Alan's lap during a flight to France in 2014.

Sadly, this isn't the first time the pair have had to say goodbye to a pet; they lost their Irish Red Setter Bev in May 2022, just months after announcing their split in January. Paul shared the heartbreaking news on social media that they had to make the difficult decision to put their cherished pet to sleep. He wrote: "It is with a heavy broken heart that myself and Alan @chattyman had to make the hardest decision to make our last act of love and let our Bev go. He added: "She has been the best companion I could have hoped for. She has been my rock and saviour on many many occasions and I cannot begin to tell you how much we will miss her."

However, the 48 year old funnyman – who's back on TV with the quiz shows Alan Carr's Picture Slam and Password – revealed that his grief over losing Bev was so overwhelming that he didn't realise he had contracted salmonella poisoning. The potentially deadly illness struck when he filming an Agatha Christie documentary in character as Hercule Poirot.

Speaking to Seann Walsh and Jack Dee on their Oh My Dog! podcast, Alan confessed: "When Bev went I've never known grief like it. There was a salmonella outbreak, and when she was put down I had a chicken sandwich the same day. I rang my mum and I said: 'Bev's gone, and I don't feel well.' And she said: 'You're grieving, people grieve in different ways.'"

Fortunately, Alan quickly recognised that his symptoms were more than just grief and sought medical attention, successfully avoiding a major health crisis.

Alan also shared a spooky tale with Seann and Jack about how his dog Bev could 'see ghosts' and would alert him and his mum to 'a presence in their home'. Alan revealed: "He would see someone walk from the dining room into a kitchen, where a door used to be," and added that Bev would then growl at the unseen visitor. In a heart-wrenching confession, Alan admitted: "I am desperate to get a dog, my life is empty. It breaks my heart.
