We have to admit it, the men really slayed at the Met Gala this year
There's a reason the Met Gala is known as the Oscars / Super Bowl / biggest night in fashion. And we love nothing more than spending the next day pouring over the Met Gala best dressed celebrities. But it's no secret the lists rarely include lots of men (unless they're dedicated edits to male celebs, of course). In fact, men get a pretty hard time at the Met Gala.
While the women make sure to pull out *all* the stops, we're talking Dua Lipa in a literal wedding dress from the Chanel archives, previous years have seen many men on the guestlist rock up in a simple black tuxedo. There's nothing wrong with the classic look, but fashion fans want more, especially at the Met where the themes get ever more extravagant. And yes we know it's not all men, but broadly speaking the male celebs always leave a lot to be desired.
Until this year that is. We have to admit, we were more than pleasantly surprised to see stars like Taika Waititi, Bad Bunny, and Pedro Pascal wowing us with serious lewks. And Twitter was full of people saying the same thing.

I do not want a single “what do you expect men to wear” this year. This. I expect this. #MetGala pic.twitter.com/Oi0xtoacMN

One celeb who always brings it for the Met Gala is Lil Nas X. At the 2021 Met, he revealed not one, not two, but three amazing looks. And he made sure to standout again this year, arriving in nothing more than a metallic thong and head-to-toe silver bodypaint. He added a bejeweled mask as well as hundreds of Swarovski crystals and pearls glued to his skin, while silver boots completed the look. I mean, we have no words.
Bad Bunny definitely deserves a shout-out for his Jacquemus white suit which featured a backless blazer and a flower train 26 feet long. As does Taika Waititi, who wore a long-line gun metal satin blazer. The floor-sweeping asymmetric garment revealed a pair of crisp cream satin trousers. He added a black corsage and two strings of pearls to his lapel.
Conan Gray was another male celeb demonstrating suits needn't be boring, with the singer rocking a custom Balmain pearl encrusted deconstructed blazer with black leather trousers and heeled boots. A pearl fan was the perfect accessory.
Dwayne Wade also went for leather, in a Prada sleeveless, high-neck leather shirt and black trousers. He wore a black coat over his shoulders and had on black leather gloves. The former professional basketball player was at the Met Gala with his wife, Gabrielle Union, who coordinated in a Prada red leather coat.
We can't not mention Jeremy Pope, or more specifically his cape. The custom Balmain look centered around a white cape featuring a hand-drawn illustration of Karl Lagerfeld. Made from over 5,000 meters of silk chiffon, the cape stretched to over 30 feet in length and definitely brough the drama. Not only did it take 5 people to move it at the Met Gala, but 70 seamstresses had been working on it in advance of the event.
Meanwhile, Pedro Pascal is continuing his run as this season's unlikely style icon. His Valentino shorts suit broke all the rules, but we can't help but love it. And, mostly him. From the structured red wool coat, patent lace-up military boots, black socks worn high up his calves, and those black shorts, Twitter has a lot to say on the fit.
And finally, we can't talk about the best dressed men at the 2023 Met Gala without mentioning Jared Leto. The actor arrived in a life-size cat costume portraying Karl Lagerfeld's beloved Burmese cat, Choupette, and left many people confused until he removed the furry head and revealed his identity. Cue the memes. He did later change into an all-black ensemble of bedazzled cape, sheer blouse, and black trousers.
It's safe to say these men all understood the assignment 👏.
