Addison Rae is an IRL mermaid in a sequin fishtail skirt and carrying a shell
Good morning, fellow Addison Rae devotees and “Diet Pepsi” enthusiasts. We know it's not just us with this song stuck in our heads, playing on a constant loop. The definition of a tune. And, no surprise, the social media personality turned actress and artist's latest musical release is just as big a bop. Fitting, then, that Addison stepped out at the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards last night [Monday 28 October] channelling her new song ‘Aquamarine.’ And in short, the look was pretty perfect!
Stepping out on the red carpet alongside fellow attendees Kylie Jenner and Cynthia Erivo, Addison made sure to turn up for the occasion. The Thanksgiving star wore a head-to-toe Thom Browne ensemble, featuring a seriously waist-cinching grey corset that laced all the way up the back. She paired the busty top with a shimmering, sequin fishtail maxi skirt that was giving major mermaid vibes.
Save for a delicate pearl strand necklace, her only accessory for the evening was an oversized seashell she carried with her all night. Because what else do mermaids need?

In case you haven't already watched the video for ‘Aquamarine,’ we recommend you fix that pronto:
Addison spoke to Harper's Bazaar about the follow-up to her sure-to-be-Grammy-winning-like-it-literally-better song ‘Diet Pepsi,’ saying “‘Diet Pepsi’ was always going to be the first thing I dropped. This one only felt right to follow up... I think it’s very different from ‘Diet Pepsi,’ but also in the same universe. And I think that was really essential – that it felt very cohesive and it can exist in the same world. I think people expect a follow-up to something like ‘Diet Pepsi’ to be very similar to it... which is exactly why I couldn’t give [it to] them. You know what I mean?”
She also mentioned that ‘Aquamarine’ is about “transforming and finding what message you want to tell and what story you want to tell through your life” and about “rawness and acceptance.”
And yes, the title is a call back to the 2006 film Aquamarine, which Addison says she's watched many times. “The title, I think it’s so glamorous and so beautiful,” she explained. “But yeah, I like to draw inspiration from everywhere and I never shy away from feeling like there’s something to learn from a movie, for example.”
