Adam Brody welled up on stage last night as he thanked wife Leighton Meester in the acceptance speech for his first ever Critics Choice Award.

The 45-year-old won the trophy for Best Actor in a Comedy series for playing rabbi Noah in smash-hit Netflix series, Nobody Wants This. Upon hearing he was to receive the trophy, Brody planted a kiss on Gossip Girl star Meester and headed to the stage, where he delivered an emotional tribute to his wife.

“My darling, darling wife,” he told the crowds, his voice catching as he held back tears. “Thank you for sharing this life with me and this journey with me. Thank you for our family. Love you with all my heart. Thank you so much.”

Brody met Meester on the set of The Oranges back in 2010. The pair married in 2014 and now share a 10-year-old daughter and five-year-old son. They walked the red carpet together at last night's ceremony, both wearing looks by Dior.

Brody also paid tribute to his on-screen partner in Nobody Wants This, Kristen Bell, who plays relationship podcaster Joanne in the series. “Thank you for your talent. Thank you for your kindness. Thank you for your belief in me. This is a Hanukkah present for you!” he joked.

The actor also teased that production on the hotly anticipated second series of the show was about to begin.

“We had the pleasure, the immense pleasure, of filming this in Los Angeles. I can't wait to run it back with you guys in a few weeks,” he said, before thanking creator Erin Foster.

Nobody Wants This was nominated for three awards at the ceremony. Bell was in contention for the Best Actress gong, but ultimately lost out to Jean Smart in Hacks. The show was also nominated for Best Comedy Series, but again was beaten by Hacks in the category.
