A free wine fountain exists in Italy to make your holiday even more glorious

It sounds like something too good to be true, but there is a place you can get wine for free at any time of the day, and that magical place is in the Abruzzo region in central Italy.

Created by the local Dora Sarchese vineyard, the button-operated fountain sits inside a giant wine barrel along the Cammino di San Tommaso pilgrimage route.

But rather than dispensing water to thirsty tourists and pilgrims, it’s red wine that’s flowing instead.

This isn’t the first time a free-flowing wine fountain has sprung up in Italy.

One notable plumbing mistake in 2008 saw the wine fountain that runs during the annual Grape Festival in Marino rerouted to households. However the Dora Sarchese fountain is the first one to flow around the clock, and not to be connected with any special event or festival.

We don’t know about you, but we’re suddenly getting a hankering to book a ticket to Italy…
