This £9.99 mascara made my lashes look better than any LVL treatment I've tried

I've had LVL treatment on my lashes once and let me tell you... never again. While everyone I know praises the effect that simultaneously tinting and curling your lashes has, I found the growing out stage unbearable.

You've heard the phrase 'legs akimbo', well that's what my eyelashes looked like as new straight ones grew in amongst their curly peers. Not to mention the fact I'm convinced my lashes on my left eye have never grown back the same and are forever more lopsided.

4-week lash cycle my arse.

So when I heard about Maybelline's new mascara, labelled as a 'Lash Lift' in a tube, I was fully on board, although slightly apprehensive...

At the risk of sounding like Croydon's answer to Gemma Collins, I'm pretty fussy about mascaras. In my younger years all I wanted was volume, volume and more volume. But after that unfortunate LVL incident, clumpy lashes just weren't a good look on me anymore. Which means I basically exclusively use Glossier's Lash Slick mascara, as it gives me length and curl with zero smudging.

But, I had high hopes for Maybelline. Not only because a tube of their Lash Sensational is sold every 21 second in the UK (very So Solid Crew that stat) and is recommended by everyone from Meghan Markle to Sofia Richie, but because there is some serious science behind it.

To recreate that pricey LVL look, Maybelline's new formula contains hair styling polymers and flexible film formers which act like glue, stretching and lifting your lashes upwards, and most importantly, keeping them there.

All good on paper, but when I saw the brush for the first time I was a little surprised. The hourglass shape reminded me of a certain other infamous mascara, which is not only double the price, but also smudges on me like an absolute b***h.

Turns out, I had nothing to worry about because not only did I experience zero smudging, but I mean just look at the before and after... my lashes are practically touching my god damn eyebrows!

A moment of silence for that curl please...

If you struggle with painfully straight lashes and don't have the money or patience to go through a salon lash lift, I cannot recommend this mascara enough. In fact, it's going straight in my makeup bag and for a lash diva like me, that really is the ultimate sign of approval.

With thanks to King of the Booth.
