The 8 Coolest New Watches That Dropped in February

This month, there seemed to be a couple trends threading through many of the key releases. Brands are finding inspiration in natural elements, from rushing rivers to snowcapped mountains. In addition, the experimentation with new types and combinations of materials continues to be at the forefront of design and innovation across the industry. Case in point: Girard-Perregaux‘s striking green dial executed in car paint for its Aston Martin collaboration. Here are eight highly diverse watches that offer unique takes on each of these trends. It was a big month for Grand Seiko with not one, not two, but four new watches hitting the market: the Hi-Beat SBGH368, STGK031, STGK033, and the Limited Edition SLGH027. This limited edition of 1,200 pieces builds on the Evolution 9 Collection with a textured dial inspired by the ridges of Mt. Iwate. The dial is framed by a case made of Ever-Brilliant Steel, a stainless-steel alloy that offers better corrosion resistance—the material also extends to the bracelet. The nods to nature continue on the high-beat Caliber 9SA5 movement whose finish is inspired by the rippling waves of the Shizukuishi River near the Grand Seiko studio where the watch is made. The watch will be available at Grand Seiko Boutiques and select retail partners worldwide beginning in May 2025.

Omega introduced a new pair of Seamasters. These special 42 mm Bronze Gold editions are inspired by the Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition that launched in 2020 for the James Bond film, No Time to Die. They retain the mesh bracelet, oxalic anodized aluminum bezel ring and dial, and domed sapphire crystal, now rendered in Bronze Gold. The metal is Omega’s own alloy and offers corrosion resistance without verdigris-oxidation, allowing a slow aging process that results in a natural and beautiful patina over a longer period of time. In addition to the mesh bracelet, the second variation is offered on a sporty rubber strap.

Richard Mille continues its legacy of playing with new materials and textures in its latest drop: the RM 74-02. The model highlights the brand’s exclusive material, Gold Quartz TPT, a composite achieved by stacking ultra-thin sheets of quartz fibers layer upon layer, then heating them to 120 degrees at a pressure of 6 bars. Within this structure, delicate leaves of 22-karat 5N red gold are embedded and shine through the translucent quartz. The result creating the perfect frame for the open worked dial of the RM 74-02, which reveals the CRMT5 Caliber. This in-house automatic tourbillon movement is crafted from 18-karat 5N red gold and 18-karat 3N yellow gold, both of which beautifully complement the bezel and case materials.

You’ve probably already heard about one of the biggest releases of February: Girard-Perregaux’s sixth collaboration with Aston Martin. The dynamic duo continues to play with the famed carmaker’s signature hue, green, but this time, they took the color story to a whole new level, employing automotive paint on the dial for the first time. Here, the brand used an intricate filtration method to eliminate any residual grains within the paint that could potentially mar the overall aesthetic. Once the paint was prepared, it was applied to the dial in 15 ultra-thin layers, each with two cooking cycles. Between the dial and the 42 mm build, the model has a strong wrist presence while remaining highly wearable thanks to the titanium construction.
