The Beauty Products That Make You Look Instantly Better (Even If You’re Feeling Tragic)

Had a long week and feeling a bit worse for wear? After 5 full on days at London Fashion Week, our bodies are basically ruined. That, plus this cold spell of weather is giving us some seriously grey, winter skin. How do you fix greasy hair, dry lips and tired skin which has gone into meltdown mode?

Today we’re featuring some supposed miracle workers designed to have you looking glowing and healthy again. Just in time for the weekend!

Lack of water and too much alcohol can really dehydrate you from the inside. That, in addition to the cold wind outside means that one of the first places affected is the lips.

Dry, crispy lips are often the tell-tale sign that you’ve been burning the candle at both ends. To make lips instantly smooth, we love Clinique All About Lips £19.50, a priming lip cream which somehow manages to smooth lips instantly (no scrubbing or wash off required) resulting in soft lips, ready for lipstick application.

If you need a bit of lip colour too, we also love the Burts Bee’s Lip Crayon £8.09, which has as much pigment as lipstick, but is super creamy and light like a lip balm. Perfect if your lips are in need of hydration as well as colour.

Been out all night?

Not getting our 8 hours can have an instant dulling effect on both our mood and our skin. The Vichy Idealia Skin Sleep £26.50 is a lightweight gel night cream, enriched with Vichy Thermal Spa Water, which recreates the look of a good night’s sleep – even when you’ve been out all night. (We won’t tell if you don’t!)

Skin Complaints

Wearing heavy-duty makeup from dawn until midnight can bring on temporary periods of skin sensitivity. That, in addition to the cold winds battering our face can wear down even the most hard-wearing of us.

If your skin is coming out in small red spots, it’s not always acne related and using acne products on irritated skin can often make it worse. We found that La Roche Posay Toleraine £15 was great at soothing flare-ups and irritation for soft and even skin. It’s now a beauty essential for us when we know we have a stressful skin week ahead.

Too Busy To Moisturise?

If you’ve got dry skin, then this Neal’s Yard Bee Lovely Busy Bee Balm £6.50 is a perfect pocket-sized balm that you can apply to sensitive skin and lip whilst on the go. Containing soothing beeswax, skin loving oils and protective butters, it’s perfect for busy lives in this winter weather - and it’s made of natural ingredients too.

Too Much Hair Product

Couldn’t be bothered to wash your hair, so just put on more dry shampoo? We’ve all been there! Product buildup, coupled with alternating cold winter air and central heating can create an itchy, inflamed scalp which is a nightmare when you’re trying to concentrate.

Try the Montibello Treat NaturTech Pure Scalp Treatment £19.99, a serum which is designed to relieve irritation and rebalance the scalp whenever you get the itch.

Chipped, Stained Nails

Once the gel manicure has been taken off, nails can feel a bit sad and bare. The best polish for a “your nails but better” colour is the Ciate Bloom Boost £10.50, a brightening clear pink glaze which makes you nails look instantly healthier, but still very natural.

This polish is almost like a BB cream for your nails. Trust us, you’ll wear your bare nails with pride.
