7 Days: Watch new trailer of new Chanel documentary coming to Netflix

A documentary that takes viewers behind the scenes of Chanel’s haute couture spring/summer 2018 show is coming to Netflix this month.

Titled 7 Days Out, each episode of the documentary series will centre around one week in the life of a visionary and their team in the realms of fashion, food, space, sports and entertainment.

The inaugural episode, which airs on 21 December, provides viewers with a behind-the-scenes look at the legendary French fashion house's spring/summer 2018 haute couture show, which took place in January.

For the hour-long episode, director Andrew Rossi – who was also responsible for the popular documentary The First Monday, which looked into the preparations behind the Met Gala 2017 and its corresponding exhibit, China Through the Looking Glass – was given unprecedented access to the brand and its creative director, Karl Lagerfeld, prior to the show.

In the week leading up to the runway show, Rossi documents everything from the studio to the seamstresses in a bid to reveal just how much work it takes to deliver the sartorial spectacle Chanel fans have become so accustomed to.

Fashion aficionados will recall that this particular show saw Lagerfeld construct a palatial French garden setting in the Grand Palais, Paris, complete with rose-studded pergolas, an 18th century water fountain and lavish gowns which echoed their botanical surroundings.

Speaking of the making of the documentary, Rossi told Vogue: “Over time, people come to forget that the camera is there. It’s all about developing that trust, which is the biggest challenge in making a show like this.

“Typically I have a year or so with subjects to develop trust over time. In this case, we land at the most nerve-wracking moment and embed ourselves with people as they’re in the final seven days to an event.”

Two weeks before the documentary is set to air, Netflix has released a trailer for the 7 Days documentary series, revealing the subjects of its consequential episodes as the Westminster Dog Show, NASA’s Cassini mission, the Kentucky Derby, the reopening of Eleven Madison Park, and a League of Legends tournament.
