Spring is finally here and if you're looking to update your wardrobe, Red editor Sarah Tomczak has got all the style inspiration you need for the season ahead.

Sarah has searched a range of high street and designer brands to bring you her edit of the 5 key pieces you need to know about as the weather warms up.

From the versatile linen dress you'll want to wear to every event to the wide-leg trousers that will instantly upgrade a casual look, watch Sarah style her hero pieces in the video above and shop her top picks below...

1. The wide-leg trousers

Comfortable and relaxed, wide-leg trousers are a great alternative to jeans thanks to their easy-to-style, low-key appeal. ME+EM's khaki pair are a Red favourite. "They're really wide leg but they're super high-waisted with a nice pleat on the waist as well, so they're really flattering," says Sarah.

As for what to wear them with, Sarah suggests styling the trousers with a pair of clogs and a cropped top – her choice is from H&M.

The knitted design works well with a high waist, as there is no need to tuck anything in and add extra bulk around your middle.

2. The linen dress

A linen dress is arguably the hero piece in a spring/summer wardrobe, especially when it will serve you at both day and night events.

Sarah's choice is a style from Anthropologie with cut-out detailing, which she describes as "the hardest working piece in your wardrobe" this season.

"It's a little bit revealing on the stomach because it shows a bit of skin, but just enough and not too much. It will be great for daytime and it will also be great for evening with a little heel."

A pair of flat leather sandals like Sarah's choice from Mango complete this look, along with another sunshine essential - a straw tote.

3. The blouse

If you're looking to add a touch of cheer into your wardrobe, you can't go wrong with a printed blouse. Sarah's top pick is a gorgeous piece from Sezane's collaboration with Sea New York. "I love that it's a bit western, which is very much of the moment, and I just love the print as well," she says.

For a relaxed but put together look, Sarah recommends pairing the shirt with an A-line denim skirt and wooden heels - her picks are from Rixo and Swedish Hasbeens.

4. The quilted jacket

A quilted jacket will instantly update your favourite jeans and trainers look, but why not make more of a statement with a pretty print design. "If you haven't yet invested in a quilted jacket - or white jeans - this is the time," says Sarah, who has chosen Mango's paisley pattern style for this season, which is "especially awesome" as it's reversible.

A pair of white jeans are the perfect item to style this jacket with. Sarah loves Paige's wide-leg style in a cream colour, which she suggests wearing with a classic stripe t-shirt and tan suede boots.

Sadly, the style Sarah wears in the video has already sold out but we found a similar quilted floral gilet that will look great with the look above.

5. The short suit

The short suit trend isn't going anywhere this season.

"Short suits are really having a moment this summer, so I think that this is a really good investment if you haven't already got one," says Sarah, who's chosen a linen option from John Lewis "The oatmeal colour makes it really neutral so you can pretty much pair it with anything."

Wondering how to accessorise your short suit? A logo t-shirt and Sarah's "secret discovery" - Hush Puppy sandals that "will go with everything."
