This $5.2 Million Villa on the Spanish Island of Mallorca Can Go Completely Off the Grid

There are innumerable rustic villas throughout the picturesque countryside on the Spanish island of Mallorca, but this modernized finca marries rustic charm with sustainability and contemporary design.

Located on roughly six acres in Selva, a small town about 25 miles from Palma, an eco-friendly oasis has hit the market for €4.8 million (or about $5.3 million). Forgoing sea views for mountain vistas, the traditional stone-clad residence is nestled among a slew of 300-plus-year-old olive trees. Altogether, the stately abode comprises four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and a whopping 5,704 square feet of living space. Oh, and did we mention it’s also self-sufficient?

A modern, eco-friendly villa in Mallorca offers a rural setting and mountain vistas.

Recently completed in 2023, the light-filled pad seamlessly blends contemporary finishes with old-world charms. In fact, the original structure is connected to an addition that brought in many updates. The renovated house now includes 60 solar panels and an impressive battery storage system that provides 100,000 kw of power, so you can go completely off-grid. There’s also a brand-new water well and fiber-optic internet that uses less energy than broadband. “This house stands as a beacon of sustainability,” notes the listing, which is held by Vincent Out of The Agency Mallorca.

Inside, you’ll find two bedrooms and two bathrooms on the ground floor, one of which leads out to a scenic patio. This level also holds a stylish, Italian-inspired open kitchen decked out with state-of-the-art Gaggenau appliances, including a coffee bar and a wine cooler. Nearby, highlights of the spacious living room include a fireplace, massive oversized windows, and a covered terrace with epic views of the Selva church.

The home has several terraces that overlook the surrounding countryside.

Upstairs, the second floor is entirely dedicated to the primary suite. Here, you’ll find a bedroom and ensuite bath, built-in wardrobes, an office, and a private balcony. Outside, a large saltwater swimming pool is the focal point of the grounds, which also include a lush garden and an alfresco dining area for entertaining.

Recently, there’s been an uptick in interest from foreign buyers in search of these types of European country estates, and not just in Spain. In southern Italy, a wave of luxury home shoppers is eyeing historic properties in Puglia with hopes of turning the area’s traditional masserias into five-star hotels and elevated vacation homes. Of course, the most recent season of The White Lotus might’ve had a little something to do with the popularity of the Italian outpost.
