Now that we’re officially in the midst of spooky season, you’re probably starting to see Halloween decor everywhere. But if you’ve been struggling to figure out how to style up your space this season, Pinterest is here to help. According to the Pinterest 2024 Halloween Trend Report, a vintage vibe has been all the rage this Halloween season among users, with searches for “’90s Halloween decorations” spiking at 140%.

“As zoomers and millennials grapple with adulthood, nostalgia is creeping in,” the report reads. “Halloween decor from the ’70s and ’90s is making a comeback for the 2024 spooky season with these vintage styles on the rise.”

Comforting and cozy, the ’90s Halloween aesthetic is likely being pulled from classic kids’ films like Halloweentown and Hocus Pocus, with a bit of Gilmore Girls tossed into the mix. Interest in retro decor has increased in general for 2024, with Pinterest searches for the term “Vintage Halloween” also up 50%. Take this as a sign to look for unique secondhand Halloween accessories (or costume inspiration) at local thrift stores!

But nostalgic decor isn’t the only style that’s trending on Pinterest this year. The search for “Hippie Halloween decor” has also spiked by 190%, as well as “Disco Halloween decor” and “Boho Halloween” at 175% and 85%, respectively. These styles rely more on nontraditional colors like pinks and yellows, and you might even see pumpkins and ghosts paired with bold ’70s-inspired floral prints and mirrored disco tiles.

This trend is seemingly piggybacking off the cowboy/Western aesthetic that was big earlier this year. Both styles share similar color palettes, and I wouldn’t be surprised if ghosts in cowboy hats also snuck their way into the boho Halloween look, too.

No matter how far back in time you go, nostalgia is clearly leading the charge this Halloween. If either of these design styles speak to you, you can do a bit more research using Pinterest to further nail down your aesthetic — that, and the Sanderson sisters. They’re always good style inspiration this time of year!
