This $3.2 Million Michigan Estate Spans 28 Wooded Acres With a Private Lake
Michigan’s Kalamazoo, about 150 miles west of Detroit, is a small city of about 75,000 people that offers a broad variety of cultural opportunities along with serene rural landscapes that range from flat valleys to verdant wetlands and dense forestlands. About ten miles out of town, a 28-acre estate with a contemporary lakeside lodge offers both seclusion amid nature and convenience to that Kalamazoo offers.
The six-bedroom home at 10463 West H Avenue, built in 2012 and surrounded by a forested landscape that acts as a buffer for privacy, sits along a five-acre private lake, making for epic sunrise and sunset views. Chad Van Horn and Megan Mallory of Sotheby’s International Realty hold the $3.2 million listing.

The pitched ceiling soars to 40 feet in the great room, where exposed wood beams and stone walls create a bold contrast against a fireplace and an inset television asymmetrically placed in a towering column faced in gray textured tiles. The main kitchen, with a linear fire feature along one wall, sits nearby with Wolf, Miele, and Thermador appliances alongside breakfast bar seating and a wine refrigerator. A separate gallery-style serving kitchen for making messes has a direct connection to a patio with an outdoor grilling area that makes cooking up barbecue a seamless task.

The primary suite, one of six and potentially more bedrooms sprinkled throughout the house, encompasses over 1,200 square feet on the ground floor. A central display anchors the bedroom area with shelf space, an inset TV and a fireplace, while the bathroom is open to the bedroom and includes an island sink space, a windowed steam shower and a jetted tub that shares the nearby fireplace with the bedroom area. There’s also a luxe walk-in closet that spans 300 square feet with ample drawers and hanging space.
Upstairs, a vast lofted area with a shuffleboard table overlooks the great room, while another area includes built-in bunk beds and a media lounge. The lofted area opens onto an expansive roof deck overlooking rolling lawns set against a wooded backdrop.
Elsewhere, two guest suites, each with a private bath, are joined by a shared walk-in closet, while another bedroom, dubbed “the princess room,” has its own walk-in closet and bathroom, and another en suite bedroom has its own balcony overlooking the lake. There are a couple more rooms on the upper floor that can also be used as bedrooms.
The back of the house opens to a multi-level terrace that steps down to the edge of the lake. A square-shaped patch of lawn that extends into the water serves as a dock for small watercraft. Positioned a short stroll from the house, an oasis pool with a waterslide and storybook bridge is complemented by an open-air pool house with a stainless steel bar and built-in grill, along with a couple of dressing rooms. Finally, car enthusiasts will appreciate the five-car garage, which includes lots of extra space for storage.
