While the majority of spiders found in the world are harmless, they can sometimes bite when they try to defend themselves.

A spider bite is easily recognised by two dots at the site of the bite created by the spider using its mandibles.

A spider bite usually causes a small, slightly swollen spot to appear.

In most instances, this spot will disappear after a few days, but there are cases that can result in prolonged swelling.
