Cameron Diaz stunned fans on Friday when she announced that she and husband Benji Madden had welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Raddix Madden.

The announcement came via a joint statement released on the 47-year-old star's Instagram account in the form of a black-and-white text note with the comments turned off. Madden, 40, who is a member of the band Good Charlotte, also posted the note on his account.

"Happy New Year from the Maddens! We are so happy, blessed and grateful to begin this new decade by announcing the birth of our daughter, Raddix Madden," the statement read. "She has instantly captured our hearts and completed our family."

"While we are overjoyed to share this news, we also feel a strong instinct to protect our little one's privacy," the famously private couple went on. "So we won't be posting pictures or sharing any more details, other than the fact that she is really really cute!! Some would even say RAD:)"

"From our family to all of yours, we're sending our love and best wishes for a Happy New Year and Happy New Decade," the note ended. "Sincerely, Cameron&Benji."

Diaz's baby announcement comes after years of the star keeping a very low profile, having not appeared in a major motion picture since 2014's Annie remake. She hasn't appeared at a public event since two rare appearances in May 2019, during Lucy Liu's Walk of Fame ceremony and then the Infatuation's 2019 EEEEEatsCon in Los Angeles.

Back in 2017, she said at a Goop Wellness Summit that she was essentially retired from acting.

"I just went, 'I can't really say who I am to myself,' which is a hard thing to face up to," she said at the time. "I felt the need to make myself whole."

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden got married in 2015.
