Rachel Riley to get extra security after online abuse
Countdown co-presenter Rachel Riley has revealed that she's to get extra protection on the Channel 4 show after being a victim of a torrent of online abuse over her criticism of antisemitism within the Labour party.
She said she had been targeted by Labour supporters on Twitter for criticising Jeremy Corbyn.
She told The Times: "The more I speak, the more abuse I get, and the more abuse I get, the more I speak. It's got to the point where I can't look at my Twitter feed any more ... it's just a constant stream."
Riley, who is jewish and has been a member of the presenting team since 2009, has spoken out before about being trolled online; but since criticising Corbyn and Labour the problem has worsened, including physical threats, she said.
She told the newspaper that she was taking the threats seriously this time, after also receiving abuse after speaking at the Holocaust Memorial Day event at the Commons.
Jeremy Corbyn and the party have denied there is systemic antisemitism within Labour.
