People all over the world are celebrating International Women's Day -- and in honor of the holiday, we compiled the wealthiest women on earth.
As of March 2017, women make up about 10 percent of the world's 100 richest billionaires.

While they all hail from different countries and span across different industries, these women all have one thing in common -- they are trailblazers in their fields. Some of these powerful individuals inherited their fortunes from family or through marriage, but these women all took it a step beyond their inheritance in roles that grew their gargantuan wealth.

You may recognize some of these ladies as the household names behind some of your favorite brands -- Liliane Bettencourt of L'Oreal, Alice Walton of Wal-Mart, Jacqueline Mars of Mars Candy and Maria Franca Fissolo of Nutella. Others made their mark in the mining industry and pharmaceutical and finance fields.
Four of the 10 wealthiest women -- Alice Walton, Jacqueline Mars, Laurene Powell Jobs and Abigail Johnson -- hail from the U.S., while some of the other notable figures call France, Australia, Netherlands, Chile, Germany and Italy home.
