'Lava fire hose' captured pouring into Pacific Ocean

The United States Geological Survey has released stunning footage of a fiery lava stream flowing directly into the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii.

According to the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory website the activity began around New Year's Eve when a lava delta collapsed and exposed an active lava tube.

The lava is coming from the Kilauea Volcano and 2017 marks 34 years since the East Rift Zone eruption of the volcano.

Since then there have been over 142km² of public and private land covered and destroyed by lava.

Officials have reported that the current situation presents hazardous conditions on land and at sea.
