Daniel Radcliffe is reportedly worth £69 million - with his net worth up £2 million from this time last year. The reports come off the back of the papers he filed with Companies House for his company, Gilmore Jacobs.

The figures were reported by the Mirror, which argued that in addition to the £60 million reported by the company, he has an additional £9 million in other assets, taking the total to £69 million. So how did he amass such an incredible fortune?

1. Harry Potter
Let's start with the obvious. His incredible talent scored him an enviably lucrative role. He reportedly earned £42 million during his time spent playing Harry Potter (according to the Sunday Times Young Millionaires List in 2010).

2.Hard work
However, since then, he has been choosing stage roles and independent movies over large-scale blockbusters, and still the money has been rolling in. The second secret of his incredible earning power is that he's not afraid to work hard.

Clearly he started earning at the age of 11, which is a reasonable indication of a work ethic. But at the age of 29, he continues to take on an impressive workload.

Take the 12 month period covered by these accounts - to March 2015. During that time he was apparently filming Victor Frankenstein, Now You See Me 2, and Imperium. We also saw him on screen briefly in Trainwreck, and he did a long stint on Broadway. He may not be fronting films that blow the box office away, but he is regularly drawing salaries from a number of projects - and that adds up.

3. Playing the long game

He has successfully shaken off the child star associations. This was something he was clear about from the moment he finished the Harry Potter franchise, and he has said that appearing in a challenging stage play, Equine, immediately afterwards - a play that was absolutely not for children - he was making his intentions clear.

This has extended his career from a few blockbuster years after the films finished, to something that could endure for the rest of his life if he wants.

4. Investment

Radcliffe is also known for his sound investments. He says he's not interested in the money and credits his lawyer, his accountant and his mum for looking after the financial side of his working life. Whoever was responsible, they have invested wisely in several properties in London and New York, and in modern art.

5. Sensible spending

Finally, he's not a big spender. He doesn't have an entourage or a penchant for blowing cash. He's known for being understated, polite, and not keen to talk about his vast wealth.

Could you do it too?

Of course, number one is key in this list, and nobody is pretending that purely a combination of the other four is going to earn you a place on any kind of rich list before the age of 30 - for that you really would need magic powers.

However, a combination of hard work, career planning, wise investment and sensible spending really can work for everyone.

So when you're planning your New Year's resolutions, maybe there's an argument for taking a leaf out of Radcliffe's book, for a wealthier 2016.
