Is that a leopard or a tree? Big cat finds perfect place to hide

This leopard has apparently found the purr-fect hiding place - a yellow-coloured tree.

The brilliantly camouflaged big cat had climbed the Fever Tree in Serengeti, Tanzania, either to rest or hid its kill from potential scavengers.

Prelena Soma Owen, a 47-year-old photographer from Sandton, South Africa, snapped the incredible picture earlier this month.

She said: "It took me quite a while to actually see the leopard on the tree - the camouflage was incredible.

"Leopards are often found sleeping in trees, usually after a meal or just resting.

"They usually take their kill up a tree to stop scavengers getting to it.

"It was a quite a distance away when I took the photograph so I didn't spot the carcass but I'm absolutely sure that's why the leopard had climbed the tree.

"There could be various reasons why it climbed down but, annoyingly, the tree it had climbed was surrounded by long grass so it was impossible to follow and it disappeared really quickly.

"I must have driven past that fever tree a few times - then waited for about two hrs for it to wake up and descend the tree."

Fever trees, native to eastern and southern Africa are notoriously yellow in colour and provide the perfect backdrop for a leopard to hide.
