Three experienced skiers took to the snow this week to experience Alps-style conditions - just 20 miles from Sheffield.
The adventurous trio travelled to Mam Tor, a 1,695ft hill in the heart of the Peak District, after the country was covered in snow.
When they arrived the steep hill was completely white and coated in fresh powdered snow.
The rare moment, which happens 'once every 20 years' because of the wind direction, was caught on camera in the -5C conditions.
Photographer Alex Messenger, from Manchester, captured the unique moment when he travelled to the picturesque spot with his two friends.
Speaking to Rex Features, the 41-year-old said: "It often snows in the Peak District but it is very rare to have snow like this on Mam Tor - we were lucky because of the wind direction.
"It was fantastic being there; it was like we were in a little corner of the Alps, whereas in reality we were just in the Peak District - 30 miles from home."
Skiers John Roberts, 30, wearing yellow, and Chris Lockyer, 42, in red, went up and down the hill four times and were forced to make the 40-minute trek up to the summit each time.
Mr Messenger, a photographer from the British Mountaineering Council, added: "The hill is really steep; it's the equivalent of a black run in the Alps.
"We didn't know what was underneath, though. There could have been rocks under the snow, or even sheep!"
