This is the hilarious moment a llama struck the perfect pose for a holiday photograph.

The animal certainly wasn't camera shy popping up in the snap of the world famous Incan city Machu Picchu, Peru.

The 15th-century World Heritage site is located nearly 8,000 feet above sea level and is one of the most popular visitor destinations in South America.

Tourist Junichi Masuda, 34, from New York, was taking the standard holiday snaps when he noticed a few llamas grazing above the iconic site.

Thinking he would get a few photographs of the animals grazing he was stunned when one suddenly looked up and created the perfect picture.

Junichi told Caters News: "I went to Machu Picchu and there were a few llamas where I took the photo.

"All of them were busy eating grass and didn't seem to care about people passing by at all.

"Nonetheless the location was perfect for taking their photos with the magnificent background. I tried to compose a perfect photo.

"But the time being late in the afternoon with a few clouds passing by, I struggle to set my exposure right, I almost always manually operate my camera.

"Then one of the llama stopped eating and suddenly stood up. I decided to take a photo with flash and took another few seconds to set my camera.

"That is when the llama showed some interest in my camera, and came so close and started sniffing it.

"I don't know how to recall and express that feeling well. The llama was much taller than me but was incredibly cute.

"It was thrilling in the sweetest way, if I may say it like that. He even let me touch and pet him.

"After that he posed for a few seconds and let me take the photo. I've got to say that he was asking me to take his portrait, yes, it is a selfie,

"I should give him credit for it anyway."

"I was so excited to have the photo. I could not believe it so I had to see the photo over and over again. I admit that I even used it as a desktop picture for a while."
